Sports Exchanges
VCI believes that people-to-people relationships are at the heart of strong, global communities, worldwide. Providing youth, families, and communities with cross-cultural opportunities in a safe, learning, and fun environment is a powerful form of international diplomacy, which moves us all toward sustainable, positive change.
VCI coordinates annual sports exchanges, connecting youth, families, and communities, through tournaments, collaborative coaching, locally-hosted home-stays, service-learning projects, good fun, and great sports. With each subsequent, successful exchange, one fact becomes abundantly clear: friendship disarms fear.
Vermont-Dominican Republic Baseball-Cultural Exchange Program
VCI has partnered with Burlington American Little League in baseball exchanges that send Vermont youth and families to Puerto Plata, each spring, for a week of cultural learning, home-stays, community service, new friendships, great baseball, and lots of fun. Then, in late June/early July, Dominican youth travel to Burlington to reciprocate the exchange and enjoy summer in Vermont. Since 2008, more than 100 children and family members have participated in these exciting and inspiring exchanges, establishing long-lasting friendships and unforgettable experiences.
